About City Credit Union
For more than 50 years, City Credit Union has served our community as a cooperative, not-for-profit financial institution. We provide the same accounts and options you would expect to find at a traditional bank, but our service sets us apart. At City Credit Union, the focus is on people rather than profits!
Though we offer nationwide service and modern convenience, we work to maintain a personal, “small town” relationship with our community. Our staff treats you with respect, and you’ll find that our savings dividends and loan rates often beat our competitors. Plus, all of City Credit Union’s account holders have input in how we do business. As we succeed, we share that success with you!
When you open an account with City Credit Union, you become a credit union member and an owner. You become a part of something better.
What is a Credit Union
The dictionary defines ‘credit union’ as a cooperative group that makes loans to its members at low rates of interest. And, though this may be true, it’s not the whole picture. Today, credit unions offer more than loans. We provide a complete range of practical products, convenient services, financial solutions and investment opportunities – all to help our members succeed!
Credit unions are cooperatives that return their profits back to the people who participate. These funds are used to cover operating expenses, upgrade services, provide high returns on savings accounts and offer low interest rates on loans! When the credit union succeeds, its members see direct benefits!
Rather than hiring a highly paid board, credit unions are run by volunteers. Our Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee are made up of your coworkers, neighbors, family and friends! This helps City Credit Union set goals that directly benefit the people who use our financial services.
When you open a savings account with the credit union, you become an owner. As such, you enjoy advantages you won’t find at other financial institutions. Instead of treating you like a number, our staff treats you with respect. We get to know you, we ask about your goals, and then we help you reach them. In short, City Credit Union always offers superior personal service.
Credit unions traditionally serve a select group of people who share a common bond such as a specific association, neighborhood, church or employer. When City Credit Union formed in 1960, the credit union served only Independence Power & Light workers.
Since then, we have expanded to include a greater community:
- People who live or work in Jackson County
- Immediate family members of any current City Credit Union account holder
